Individual
A golfer counts the strokes used to complete each hole, then adds up the total number of those strokes at the end of the round for his score.
Singles - 1 V 1 (Matchplay only)
2 player game, the player with the lowest score wins the hole. The player that wins more holes wins the game. You can play with or without handicap. If you play with handicaps, the difference is taken between the handicaps. The player with the lowest handicap plays off 0 and the higher handicap plays of the difference.
Pairs - Best 1
Teams of 2 playing their own ball with the lowest score on each hole contributing to the team total.
Pairs - Best 2
Teams of 2 playing their own ball with both scores contributing towards the team total.
Fourball - Best 1
Teams of 4 playing their own ball with the lowest score on each hole contributing to the team total.
Fourball - Best 2
Teams of 4 playing their own ball with the lowest two scores on each hole contributing to the team total.
Fourball - Best 3
Teams of 4 playing their own ball with the lowest three scores on each hole contributing to the team total.
Fourball - Best 4
Teams of 4 playing their own ball with all four scores on each hole contributing to the team total.
Fourballs - 2 V 2 (Matchplay only)
4 player game where two teams of 2 players play against each other using better-ball scoring. All 4 players play their own ball. At the end of each hole, the lowest score between the 2 players on each team is the team's score. If you play with handicap, the player with the lowest handicap plays scratch and the other players generally play off 90% of the difference between their handicap and the lowest handicap. The percentage is up to you.
Foursomes
Teams of 2 hitting alternate shots with the same ball until holed. One player tees off on the odd holes and the other player tees off on the even holes for the duration of the round.
Greensomes
Teams of 2 hitting alternate shots with the same ball. However, unlike Foursomes both players tee off and the best drive is selected, alternate shot is then played with that ball until holed. One player tees off on the odd holes and the other tee off on the even holes for the duration of the round.
Scramble
Team of 2/3/4 players playing their own ball, with each shot coming from the same spot (the best drive is chosen and all four team members then hit from that spot, and so on).
2 man Scramble
Teams of 2 playing their own ball, but with each shot coming from the same spot (the best drive is chosen and both team members then hit from that spot, and so on).
